Management Committee
Marion Hennessy

I am pleased to nominate for a position on the QASEL Management Committee.
I have worked in special education for many years and have had the opportunity to lead at different levels and across a range of areas. My experience spans teaching and learning, complex student support, developing staff and leaders, and leading school communities through significant growth and change. These experiences have reinforced for me the importance of strong relationships, positive school culture and keeping students at the centre of the decisions we make.
Why I am nominating
What I value about QASEL is the way it connects special education leaders, creates opportunities to learn from and support one another, and provides a strong collective voice for our sector. I am nominating because I would like to contribute more actively to this work, advocate on behalf of members and help ensure the experiences and perspectives of special education leaders are represented in the conversations and decisions that affect our schools.
What I would bring to QASEL
Member representation and advocacy – I would take the time to listen to leaders across our sector, understand the issues that matter to them and ensure their experiences and perspectives are represented in broader conversations and decision-making.
School improvement and change – I bring experience in school improvement, strengthening teaching and learning, and leading significant change in complex special education settings. I value practical approaches that build staff capability and lead to meaningful and sustainable improvement for students.
People, culture and leadership – I believe positive school culture is fundamental to staff wellbeing and student outcomes. My leadership is grounded in relationships, trust, high expectations and shared purpose, with a strong commitment to developing others and building leadership capability.
I would value the opportunity to contribute to the work of QASEL, learn alongside other leaders and use my experience and voice to advocate for our profession and, most importantly, the students with disability we serve.
