Management Committee
Kate Hucker

I am nominating for QASEL’s Management Committee to continue contributing to a strong, connected and influential association that supports special education leaders and improves outcomes for students with disability. Having served on the Management Committee this year and as a State Councillor last year, I would welcome the opportunity to build on this involvement.
These roles have strengthened my understanding of QASEL’s responsibilities and the importance of bringing members’ perspectives into discussions and decisions. I bring a collaborative approach, a willingness to listen and contribute, and a commitment to QASEL’s values of Leading, Linking and Learning.
I am passionate about advocating for special education and helping our broader education system understand the complexity of our work. Our leaders navigate interconnected education, disability, health and wellbeing needs, alongside significant workforce, resourcing and operational demands. QASEL has a vital role in bringing these realities into system conversations, influencing policy and advocating for the conditions that enable safe, high-quality education for every student.
I bring extensive leadership experience across two special schools, including my current role as Foundation Principal of Coomera State Special School. Establishing and leading a rapidly growing school has required strategic planning, sound resource management, strong partnerships and responsive decision-making, while keeping student learning, staff capability and wellbeing at the centre. This experience enables me to contribute practical insights and informed advocacy on behalf of our members.
As a continuing Management Committee member, I would support the President and fellow members to progress QASEL’s priorities through active participation, consultation and shared initiatives. I would bring sound judgement, integrity and a strong commitment to mentoring emerging leaders and strengthening professional connections.
Above all, I remain committed to supporting leaders across Queensland to achieve the best possible learning outcomes for students with disability. I would welcome the opportunity to continue serving QASEL with care, commitment and a strong belief in what we can achieve together.
