2025 North QLD
Regional Councillor
Claire Cheyne
My current role is as principal of Burdekin School managing a small rural EDCP and P – 12 Special School.
I have some experience across all sectors of education, which enables me to bring a wide range of perspectives to the table. I have been the Principal at Burdekin School for the last 9 years.
I have been the NQ Regional Councillor for the last 4 years including organising the Townsville conferences and supporting some of Ric’s road trips. I am also active in QASSP. My work over the last 6 years until recently on the QASSP Student Services subcommittee as the chair has provided a platform to have a voice and impact in these issues that are deeply meaningful for me. It has allowed me to better appreciate how connected we all are by these matters – regardless of sector. I am currently the special education representative on our NQ Regional WH&S team and as NQ Regional Councillor I meet with the Regional Director quarterly with the primary and secondary association representatives.
In continuing my representation as NQ Regional Councillor, I believe I would add to an already highly accomplished group through the knowledge, experience, and willingness to grow that I would bring to the role.
